For someone who did not speak English 11 years ago, who learned it after her native Turkish and then Dutch, she is a writer sui generis—a voice so distinctive and unique, and a writer so skilled that you cannot help but to read her words and be moved.She shared with us what motivates her to write, her experiences as a trans woman and a sex worker, and the nature of transness and queerness in the politics of the modern world. We spent some time talking about her most recent essay, the powerful gutpunch that is “I Am Cunt. I Am Cock. I Am Work.”
