The Daily Whatever, June 23: Iran and Moms

I spent the past two days in a whirlwind of travel—like literal planes, trains, and automobiles—getting my child off to a pre-college camp and then driving all the way down the shaft of Florida to visit family.

Disconnecting for a couple days can feel restorative. But in my hours offline, the US somehow managed to get embroiled in war. Because that’s where we are now as a country.

And while the news is harrowing at best, it was great to catch up with

today and hear his hot takes on the non-war on Iran and its implications on our country, where we now seem to be okay with the president lobbing bombs and starting a war without Congressional approval, I guess?

As GenXers, we recall our childhoods with fuel rationing, hostage situations, and a Beach Boys song getting changed from “Barbara Ann” to “Bomb Iran.”

These are not fond memories, to be clear. But again—this is where we are as a country, again.
