The Daily Whatever, June 2: Parenting with Pride!

As we welcome Pride month with a conversation about parenting gender-nonconforming kiddos, and more

Happy Monday, and more importantly, Happy start of Pride Month!

It’s a challenging time for Pride. I have my apprehensions the US will remain a relatively safe place to gather and celebrate Pride. I hope I’m wrong,

Today I perused LinkedIn ahead of the podcast and checked for the rainbow logos we’ve all grown so accustomed to in June. And I saw literally none. Wait, I take that back. Grindr has a rainbow logo. But I barely think Grindr counts, not for this. It’s not like they can hide their Pride any day of the year.

So to all those companies who jumped on the Pride bandwagon when it was easy and advantageous, who’ve now lost their rainbows under Trump 2.0? Well, I can’t say I’m surprised. But it is shameful.

With that out of the way, we welcomed Pride discussing a story of mine, called “I’m Filled with Pride for My Genderfluid Child,” sharing details about my child’s gender journey, and what it’s taught me as a parent and ally.

I’m Filled with Pride for My Genderfluid Child

When Nico came out as genderfluid, I was filled with pride.

The TL;DR is: when you become a parent, you sign up for unconditional love. Your child’s gender or sexual orientation can’t—or at least, shouldn’t—override that. Ever.

We’d welcome your feedback—either on the podcast or the story itself.

The chat was as lively as ever today, and we thank

Tomorrow we'll have

joining us to talk queer history and we’re all in for a huge treat. You’re not gonna want to miss this one.

Love you mean it!
