The Daily Whatever, July 16: Music and Memoir

From 'Three Imaginary Girls' to 'Girl in Red', a lifetime love of live music with Dana
3

One of the things I have always loved about

, my friend, Anam Cara, and co-founder of is her love for music — her deep and abiding passion for it —and her ability to use music to build community.

This passion for music is innate for Dana, something she remembers from her earliest years. In the early 2000s, Dana co-founded Three Imaginary Girls, a Seattle indie-pop review site that got to the core of the local music scene with its upbeat and fan-fueled documentation of a resurgence of Seattle-centric music.

From there, stepping into music memoir writing was a logical next step, and a great way to reconnect with her musical roots. Flexing her music-writing muscle on Medium, Dana is bringing her back catalog to genXy — and continuing to write new music content here.

And as a music-loving mom, what could be more on-brand than documenting her kids’ first big mosh-pit experience?

The Chat was incredible today, with riffs on favorite bands, first shows, and more. Huge thanks to everyone who joined us, and to those kind folks who became paid subscribers for our big Summer Pledge Drive*.
