Hello hello, Whatevers!
This week in news—like every single week living under this regime—has been fucked up. The deadly July 4th floods in Kerr County, Texas made this week particularly bleak. As of this writing, 129 have died, with 170 people still unaccounted for.
It’s extra fucked-up, as we know natural disasters like this are becoming more common due to climate change, and that we’re living in a country that will only hasten such events through inaction or wose.
It’s extra-extra fucked up, as these are deaths caused by Republicans, at both the state and national level. Kerr Country failed to secure warning systems, even as they were aware of the risks. The local warning coordination meteorologist and science officer had both been let go under DOGE cuts.
But the most extra-extra-extra fucked up part? Trump, blaming the victims. From The Indepedent:
“The way this happened, there was a very early warning — warned a day before, they warned even two days before,” Trump told his daughter-in-law, Fox News host Lara Trump, in an interview broadcast on Saturday night. “They warned four hours before. Maybe they should have had bells or something go off, but it's pretty dangerous territory when you think of all the times that they've had this problem.”
If this doesn’t make your blood absolutely boil, then perhaps you need to take a soak in a raging river and see if that helps.
But as with most of our Fucked-up Friday episodes, all contestants avoid the top news story of the week and tend to dig a bit deeper for what might’ve been missed. Here were our three submissions:
Our amazing special guest
shared this submission, Wife of Ken Paxton Files for Divorce, Citing ‘Recent Discoveries’, and spoke of the hypocricy that the GOP represents evangelical Christians when the way that act is so antithetical to the teachings.
Michelle’s comment on the article got some nice feedback, and she shared it here (along with the NYT gift article link—thanks, Michelle!)- pitched this story, Nancy Mace has 'swamp and a dream,' praises Alligator Alcatraz, says SC 'gators are ready', about a South Carolina member of the US House who tweeted how her state was ready to host the next alligator-infested concentration camp after Florida.
Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words, so let’s let her tweet do the talking.

And finally,
pitched this dystopian horror, Federal Agents Spray Tear Gas at Protesters, Children During ICE Raids at California Farms. I think that title stands on its own—ICE showing up as immigrants work at their jobs and tear-gassing and then disappearing them.
We all pretty much agreed it was all deeply fucked-up, though Dana narrowly won the most votes.
We’re already queasy thinking what fucked-up horrors await us next week.
We’re just grateful we’ll get to be here to discuss them with our wondeful community.
Huge thanks and hugs to
