Y’all we had a rollicking conversation, and Frederic illuminated his thinking behind oaths in general, and what something like an oath from regular Americans could mean, about us, each other, and our commitment to this country.

Dana and Lawrence have each taken the oath, and Frederic did today as well—building on the oath he took in the Marines—to sort of re-certify his commitment to the country, and not just the Commander in Chief.

Here’s the oath we’ve come up with—tho’ Frederic’s is a slight variation of this.

The Citizen’s Oath

"I ______name________ do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic;
that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same;
that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion;
and that I will well and faithfully discharge the rights and responsibilities afforded to me as a Citizen of the United States of America.
So help me God."
