I feel I missed Medium’s glory days, having lurked since 2021 and then start writing on the platform in April 2023. I’m thankful that Dana recently published me with a boosted story before this untimely “death,” and also recently connected with Walter. Like Patrick, I don’t have the bandwidth to also manage a Substack. For the time being, Medium still serves why I’m there in the first place: not financial gain (which has waned significantly since last fall) but to publish fodder for my memoir/s. The best thing I’ve learned to work with editors & writers like yourselves.
Yeah, I just don't have the time to run both and write for both. I can run one, and then write on the other. The interesting thing about Medium is it goes through cycles. We are certainly in a down period, but I feel strongly it will eventually come back around.
I agree with Patrick! I think Medium continues to be a great place to publish. It's a good place for what Larry is talking about too. Thanks for the comment!
because I haven’t yet published on Substack on can’t weigh in via chat, but here’s my comment: as I grew disenchanted because of the political zeitgeist with social & mainstream media, Medium filled a personal reading void, connecting with like-minded writers who I didn’t see on Facebook, etc. LinkedIn has become more political, but it’s more business/brand promotion
I enjoyed the chat. Medium has been a great platform for me. I'm still there, but I'm not sure for how much longer. After being part of such great communities there, it's hard to give it up.
Since I'm very practical, I'll definitely give it up if I start LOSING money.
Great chat! I love the idea of putting a friend link at the top of articles, thanks Patrick! I tend to share friend links on s.m. but this had not occurred to me. Especially given the platform's current function, the more people who can read me for free the better.

If it can’t cover the $5 monthly fee then… yeah. That ain’t right.
Thanks for mentioning the email list changes, Patrick! I had no idea they pushed that change through.
I literally found out just before the stream. It’s disgraceful
