I usually don’t drop articles into comment threads but the good folks at After Babel just posted an article about Meta’s deliberate marketing to minors despite knowing the data on targeting for human trafficking. I know this isn’t a new story.
My FB has been mostly deactivated for months but the AI situation is the nail in the coffin for me. I’m downloading the photos I want to save and deleting my facebook account permanently this weekend.
That's the rub. Getting what we pay for. When a company offers a product for free there ysually is a catch. Data mining, privacy compromised, real world product testing of poorly designed product. It's why I don't date often and when I do I have to pay. Good luck and stay safe!

Welcome to the world men have been living in for years. I am an older widower and for online dating sites and some social media sites that means I have a target on my back. I'm seen by scammers as alone, lonely more likely to have money. On sites that charge for messaging, bots outnumber real women and just try to keep you talking and paying the messenger fees. On social sites scammers are more prevalent. Using info from your profile to try and develop a relationship but never being able to meet for a variety of reasons. Finally after feeling they have you hooked the request for money comes usually it's so they can come to meet you. Sometimes if they are trying for a larger sum they need to pay a government official. Some sites will take action if you report a scammer some won't. Now with AI if a site wants to keep you engaged the instructions the AI operates under may let it invent a match for you. Sending you to meet a non existent match seems like who ever programed that AI has more work to do.
